Poker chip casing has many varieties. It comes in different styles, made of different materials and different ranges. Usually, chip sellers offer them in a complete set which includes the case. Some readymade plastic chips which are cheap can be protected in a case as simple as a shoebox. You can move to quality lockable cases when you decide to use better poker chips.

Plastic Case
This is the basic carrying case for chips. Usually, these cases do not have locks and offers a simple method of stocking up and carrying your gaming chips. Plastic cases are commonly used due to their cheap prices but on the other hand, they also have the shortest life span among chip cases. Moreover, lack of security requires regular checking of the chips during the game.

Vinyl Cases
Vinyl cases are one step higher than the plastic cases because they provide better security for your poker chips. The case can be made from wood or the common ones which are plastic covered with vinyl material. It may also come with or without a lock.

Durability is one major concern in this type of cases. The weight of the chipsets places a significant pressure on the carrying case and handle. Common scenario that happens with vinyl cases is the snapping of the handle from the case due to heavy weight.

Metal Cases
These are probably the most common and popular chip carrying case. Metal cases are usually made from structural aluminum and come in a selection of styles as well as price ranges. The quality of the metal varies significantly so it is important to check the shops and to choose wisely. You have to check the metal cases carefully as some of them have plastic panels and parts in their construction. There could be some sharp corners and some might not even have locks.

It is also good to remember that extremely light metal cases will not last long. The ideal metal cases are the medium weight ones and is made of metal all over (preferred is aluminum) with added reinforcement in critical areas plus locks to ensure the safety of the chips.

The most excellent of all metal cases are created from aircraft quality aluminum with removable assembled chip trays, high security locks mechanically attached to solid hinges and handle fittings. This kind of case is one of the most expensive and handpicked case.

Wood case
Another option for a chip case is the featured wood case with traditional brass fittings. They are available in different styles and the price ranges depending on the wood used in the construction – from low-priced pine models to expensive carved exotic wood with decorative precious metals handmade by master cabinet makers. The most affordable ones are made of pine, oak, mahogany and other hard woods with quality construction, locks, heavy duty hinges and handles and removable fit trays.
